European Vacation – Coursan to Barcelona
Posted by mavimet
This morning we stopped at a grocery store and picked up some fruit for breakfast. It was a cloudy morning, which made it much nicer for driving at first. Within a couple of hours though, it was sunny and very hot again.
When crossing the border into Spain, we didn’t have to show our passports at all. They just wanted to see the insurance papers for the car. That was the first time anyone had asked to see those papers. I think it took a couple of minutes to find them, but luckily we did.
We headed for the phone office when we reached Barcelona so we could make phone calls to our parents. There were no such things as cell phones back then. We had been sending postcards, but hadn’t spoken to anyone back home in a month and a half. We didn’t have any luck with our calls though – all we got were busy signals or no answers.
After that we looked for a camping spot, but by 8:00 pm we hadn’t even seen one. So, we checked into Hotel America in Iqualada, which is a suburb of Barcelona. It was a gorgeous hotel. We ate our dinner there and I had trout stuffed with ham, which I said was delicious. We also had our first pitcher of sangria and all agreed that it would not be our last one.
Unfortunately, I have no pictures again today.
Today was Monday, July14, 1975 and we traveled 220 km.
I’ll add a picture I took of the sunrise on Feb 16 here, so we’re not completely pictureless today.
It’s not a spectacular sunrise photo, but I do like how the sun is much further north than it was on one of my last pics. We are in the midst of a wonderful warm winter with hardly any snow and spring is not too far off now.
